Our discussion will focus on “hubris”—excessive pride that characterizes both the protagonist and antagonist and renders compromise impossible. The essential question of this tragedy is the supremacy of divine or secular law. Of course, our discussion will focus on the prevalence of these issues in our world. Because the original play is written in Ancient Greek, we will read the Robert Fagles translation.

The play will be emailed to you upon registration, or it can be purchased from Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

Deborah Orens practiced law at Hannoch Weisman, and currently teaches English literature at Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School, where she has developed specialized curricula merging these two passions. Deborah loves to attend Shabbat services at CAI with her husband, daughter, and granddaughter.
