Commemorating Yom HaShoah: "The Absent" Documentary Film Screening

Jeffrey K. Cymbler earned his BA, magna cum laude, from Yeshiva University and a JD degree from Boston University School of Law. He is the child and grandchild of Polish Holocaust survivors. His mother and his maternal grandparents were saved by a Polish Catholic family and their priest during the Holocaust. His father was a survivor of Auschwitz-Birkenau, KL Warschau, a death march and Dachau. A practicing attorney, Jeff has been an avid genealogist and Polish-Jewish historian and since 1983. He was on the Editorial Board of Jewish Roots in Poland: Pages from the Past and Archival Inventories. Jeff’s publications include: The Cemetery of the Jewish Communities of Będzin and Czeladz Poland (published in Krakow); Introduction to Polish-Jewish Genealogical Research; Polish-Jewish Genealogical Research – A Primer; and Nineteenth and Twentieth-Century Polish Directories as Resources for Genealogical Information. Jeff is a longtime board member of Jewish Records-Indexing Poland, Inc. He is a past Vice President of the Jewish Genealogical Society of New York and of The Fraternal Order of Bendin Sosnowicer. Jeff is the Founder of the Będzin-Sosnowiec-Zawiercie Area Research Society Facebook page which has over 3400 members and he is the administrator of the Polish-Jewish Dialogue Committee Facebook page. Jeff has led several tours to Poland with groups ranging from 8 to over 200 people. Since his first trip to Poland in 1986, Jeff has traveled to Poland nearly 40 times. Three years ago, Jeff obtained Polish citizenship. Two years ago, Jeff spent two months in Poland cleaning and photo documenting the 19th century Jewish cemetery in Będzin, Poland. Jeff made significant contributions to the research and documentation of the story of how Polish diplomats and Jewish activists in Switzerland, commonly referred to as the Lados Group,  fabricated Latin American passports which saved the lives of hundreds of Jews during the Holocaust. Jeff, together with Steve Elbaum Z"L completed the documentary film on the history of the Jewish community of Będzin which will be premiered in the US at our synagogue.
