Kudos to parents, partners in education
The Agudath Israel Early Childhood Center is inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia. A number of guiding principles of the Reggio movement are critical to our work.
When we shifted gears so quickly to establish school outside our building, our goal was to go into the virtual world while maintaining our core values.
One critical component of the Reggio Emilia philosophy is:
Parents are partners in education.
Now more than ever, we value the role our parents play in supporting the education of our students. Whether in a Zoom gathering, in a Facebook story time, or doing an activity with a teacher on a YouTube video, we are celebrating the opportunity for parents and children to learn side by side.
As we welcome each new week with a school-wide gathering to say Havdalah, we cherish seeing families joining for this special multi-sensory experience.
During Friday morning Shabbat singing, we take joy in being a part of families sitting together and bringing Shabbat into their homes.
Parents gather once a week at night, sometimes after bedtime, sometimes with children on their laps, to support each other and share their struggles and successes. We value the chance to have them share ideas and strategies with each other.
We pray for the day we will be back together for school inside our school building. For now, we are grateful for the hard work and commitment all the parents are making as partners in their children’s education.
