Clubs and Committees
- Cemetery Association: CAI's Cemetery Association assists synagogue members with purchasing cemetery plots. Volunteers participate in a cemetery cleanup every year.
- Combating Antisemitism Initiative: CAI's Combating Antisemitism Initiative has sponsored more than two dozen programs over the past few years for both adults and teens, providing guidance to confront the increasing scourge of hatred directed against Jews, our institutions, and Israel. CAI has partnered primarily with the ADL (Anti-Defamation League) but has also collaborated with other organizations, including the American Jewish Committee, CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis), and the Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ.
- Create for a Cause: CAI's Create for a Cause group has made and donated hundreds of items for various organizations in our community. If you love to knit, crochet, sew, or just be creative, this is the group for you! All skill levels are welcome.
- Environmental Committee: CAI's Environmental Committee educates the synagogue about caring for the environment, grounded in Jewish teachings and history. Committee members take action to help congregants of all ages and stages to lessen our impact on the environment, and collaborate with local and state community partners on activities and advocacy to sustain and protect the environment.
- Hevra Kadisha: Dealing with the death of a loved one is an extraordinarily difficult endeavor. Our Hevra Kadisha ("Holy Society") is a volunteer support service for our congregational families and is ready to help congregants who need support with end-of-life issues.
- Interfaith Committee: CAI's Interfaith Committee works to reduce discrimination, bigotry, and xenophobia through interaction with other Jewish and non-Jewish organizations, including the Peace Islands Institute and the West Essex Ministerial Association.
- Israel Committee: CAI's Israel Committee organizes programs on issues of importance regarding Israel including, but not limited to, Israel-related lectures, films, presentations, informational materials, and fund raising. Such activities and programming are aimed at increasing the awareness of issues of importance to Israel and fostering a strong relationship to Israel. Join the Israel Committee for the 22nd Annual Walk for Israel on Sunday, November 2, 2025!
- Men's Club: CAI's Men's Club actively supports the synagogue with award-winning social, educational, and religious programming. Men's Club was formed to promote fellowship by organizing events through which its members provide service to the congregation, assist its youth, and enjoy social camaraderie. The organization administers The Jack Lippe Memorial Scholarship Fund, which bestows a scholarship each year on a graduating senior from a member family. Men's Club is affiliated with the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs (FJMC) and The North Jersey Region of Jewish Men's Clubs (NNJR).
- Sisterhood: CAI's Sisterhood focuses on community-building programs for synagogue members of all ages and stages. Sisterhood supports the synagogue's various activities, and sponsors both educational and entertaining events throughout the year. Sisterhood is affiliated with the Women's League for Conservative Judaism.
- Social Action Committee: CAI's Social Action Committee engages the synagogue in activities that promote justice and compassion within the Jewish community and society at large, and makes common cause with other religious and non-religious groups and diverse communities in such activities.
- Tzedek Initiative: CAI's Tzedek Initiative pursues and promotes social justice and racial equality through listening and learning, community building, and advocacy and activism. The Initiative affords congregants of all ages and stages, as individuals and as a community, the opportunity to learn about and help create a more just and equitable world. Recognizing that the work towards justice and equality begins at home, the Tzedek Initiative also supports an inclusive and welcoming CAI community that celebrates the diversity of the Jewish people and honors and respects differences among us.
- And More! Chair an event, pack Purim baskets, we can always use an extra set of hands. Contact CAI's Membership Concierge, Debbie Lurie to find the right opportunity for you.
